I have the best daughter-in-law ever. She is kind, considerate, caring, giving and although we all have our faults, I am unaware of hers. Not that she doesn’t have them, we all do. But all I see is a loving girl who is doing a bangup job taking care of my youngest Granddaughter, who was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome. She holds down a full time job, takes Kendal (her daughter), to many weekly therapy sessions, to the doctor’s in and out of town, and takes care of the house. She’s superwoman. I seriously do not know how she does all of that and I think many women would melt into a little puddle at even the thought of doing half of what she does now. As well as that, she also participates in the Angelman Foundation events, attends Church on Sunday, organizes birthday parties and other events, and is basically a one-woman show at her work. Have you ever heard someone say that they had lung cancer yet they never smoked even once and also did not live or work around someone who smoked? I remember a lady telling me that she had to wear a mask any time that she was outside because she had lung cancer. I can understand her complaint about never having smoked. People try hard to eat healthy, exercise and stay away from unhealthy habits and they still are attacked by a cancer. However,
Mesothelioma Cancer can sometimes cause lung cancer although it does not start out that way. Anyone can get this cancer simply by being around asbestos or living with someone else who works around it. Although laws were passed regarding the use of asbestos that have helped to control the cancer; businesses are still using products that can cause cancer, they just do not advertise it. These products are government controlled but the government cannot be everywhere. I worked in a plant that used some of these products. This product caused dense dust to be in the air and they did not have a system to suck out these particles. I once looked at the labels on one of these, then went home and looked it up on the Internet and found that it was a carcinogenic product, yet this company had not one time informed it’s employees of the possible risk. But mesothelioma can occur up to 70 years past the date of exposure. It is very important that everyone become aware of the chemicals in their work environment.

Living in an apartment building where one of the bedrooms has a low window that could be easily accessible makes me wish that we had some kind of security system. The problem is that my family have been inundated by calls from my spouse’s business security system, seems like every time the wind blew they were calling our house. But for those who would like some kind of security, perhaps wireless security systems like the GE Simon XT might be a great alternative. That particular system is set up to allow your pets to move around without it going off. We sure need that; our two dogs are not statues. These systems are designed for non-professional installation with plenty of assistance when needed. Worth looking into?

I don’t know about you, but a lot of times I see people walking around with tee-shirts on that have logos or names of companies, or that promote an event, and I haven’t got a clue where those come from. I used to live in a town that had a company right downtown which could make specialized things like bowling shirts with names and teams; and that was interesting. Not interesting in like hmm, cool, but hmm, now you know kind of thing. Anybody can get these kinds of shirts, they are all promotional items that don’t really cost a lot. Banks and insurance companies are two types of businesses that I remember always giving out calendars, and Hallmark used to give these nice little calendars that you could write in, away free every year. Not every business is still doing that but it makes sense to me to do it; very little money can give a lot of advertising. Take a pen for example. You get it from the hair salon; your daughter takes it from you and she leaves it at her doctor’s office; the secretary finds it and so forth and so on. Never underestimate the power of advertising.

Autism affects one in every 110 children, out of which one in 70 are boys. This means that there are a great majority of females with autism. What exactly is autism?
Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders known as Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD). The other pervasive developmental disorders are PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not Otherwise Specified), Asperger’s Syndrome, Rett Syndrome and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder. Many parents and professionals refer to this group as Autism Spectrum Disorders. (1)
But that is a medical explanation and doesn’t really tell the layperson what it is, and how the children with this condition act. How can you really tell if a child has this condition?
If your child exhibits any of the following actions, please ask your pediatrician to screen them for autism immediately. It has been established that a child as young as one year of age can show signs of autism.
No big smiles or other warm, joyful expressions by six months or thereafter
No back-and-forth sharing of sounds, smiles, or other facial expressions by nine months or thereafter
No babbling by 12 months
No back-and-forth gestures, such as pointing, showing, reaching, or waving by 12 months
No words by 16 months
No two-word meaningful phrases (without imitating or repeating) by 24 months
Any loss of speech or babbling or social skills at any age (2)
There is also an interactive quiz for parents regarding the red flags of autism (as listed above). Autism Speaks is one of many great sites with information on autism. But don’t try to diagnose your child yourself, let a doctor do it. The child will need to be professionally screened and diagnosed; after which specific training may be undertaken aimed at your child’s personal needs. Be aware that there are other conditions which are very similar to autism.

At first, I wasn’t sure what to think of the Samsung HDTV. Was it just a good ‘low priced’ HDTV monitor or one heck of a TV and true bargain? It has all the basic menu options like picture and audio adjustment, and the menu is easy to navigate. For home video enthusiasts, it also has a side A/V composite input, which most new televisions have. Still, it’s a good feature, and should be recognized.

For some consumers, buying health insurance is their only health coverage option. However, even if you have health insurance from your employer, private insurance may still be an option to save money. Shop around online and see if you can find a private insurance policy that provides you with the coverage you need but is less expensive than the premium you pay at work. North Carolina health insurance offers temporary health insurance, dental insurance, term life insurance, insurance for students, medicare supplementary insurance and short term health plans. But for each category of insurance there are many choices to be made.

When you start to think about bettering your career, an online degree is a definite option for everyone. Having to drive to a facility takes up time that can be spent learning. For this reason, online universities are a godsend. They allow us to learn at our convenience, yet offer us the opportunity to do so without traveling. At Western Governor’s University this is exactly what one can do. A non-profit university, and one which has written about in Time Magazine, WGU allows you to obtain a degree that is well valued by employers. Flexible learning allows students to learn at their own pace, as they are able. It really is a good option as I have found out for myself. In the comfort of my own home I can study my lesson and return the results to the teachers. I did not have a time limit and felt that it was a good choice for me. It will be for you also.
