Quite a number of years ago I received a call from Microsoft regarding the purchase of a game for the XBox and I embarrassingly had to admit that I didn’t have one idea as to what an Xbox was. Luckily they called me because it appeared that someone was trying to purchase a game using my credit card. But since that call I have made a point of finding out what it was and although I’ve never owned one, nor have any of my children or Grandchildren owned one, I’ve seen it advertised many times. This gaming system allows one to go online and play against other game players, as well as playing solitary games at home. There are many, many games to choose from, so that nobody will ever run out of things to do. I went to our local ATT store to purchase an Iphone but they were out and taking names of people who wanted one. I decided to go back home and order one online. When I did that, I got a pop-up box telling me that the phone could take from 7-14 days to get to me, if they weren’t backordered. I couldn’t figure out why they would be so short of these phones considering they just came out on the 19th of June. But I was pretty surprised when I got my phone after only 3 days. I can’t really see any difference and it’s supposed to be faster than the last one but I can’t tell. The thing that I notice here is that you can take not only pictures, but video too and you can email them or upload them to You Tube. And since I added on the Photobucket uploader I can send pictures there too. That is very useful.

My family has two dogs. One is full blooded dachshund and the other is 3/4 dachshund although she doesn’t appear to be except by coloration. She’s 4 now and he is 8. Something she’s started doing is sitting next to me when I am at my computer and snapping her jaws. I know she’s doing it to get attention, but I wonder if she’s trying to tell me that she needs to go outside too. And sometimes when we are sitting out on the porch I hear her trying to “talk” and swear it sounds like Mama. She’s never done that before so it’s especially curious. Of course the two of them stay under me all day when I am home; which is most of the time. We have to keep the bathroom door shut because they like to get into the garbage in there; and sometimes the girl will get onto our table in search of food. She steals my gum too. The last two times I had a box of liver snap treats on the table, she got up and got it while I was gone and of course it was empty when I got back. Sometimes they mess with the garbage can but luckily not that often.

I did not read the news yesterday until the evening, so I didn’t hear about the toddler who survived the airplane crash in the ocean where 150 passengers were on board. The strange thing is that the only survivor is a toddler and I am so curious as to how he/she survived drowning, since ocean waves are so big. Not only that but surely there were sharks all around as well. My husband says that God was looking out for that child and I am sure that he is right. How else could a small child survive not only an airplane crash but drowning in the ocean?

Okay now, we sure are having a lot of celebrity deaths which is pretty bad, but if you read the obits in the bigger towns you would see that a lot of people in their 50’s are expiring. This is particular scary for me since I am in the middle 50’s and can’t help wondering how much longer I have myself. But you cannot sit around and worry about that kind of thing or you’d make yourself crazy. The points that something like this brings to mind are how you should live each day as if it were your last, and whether or not you’ve done the things you’ve always wanted to do or are you putting it off, waiting to have the extra money? One thing I’ve finally realized is that if we keep putting things off we never do have the money because we don’t plan for it. The only things I’d like to do are traveling to Australia and perhaps England, although I might be afraid of England. I don’t find much that I’d really like to do that we haven’t already done though. Just something to think about.

I hate those nasty little bedbugs with a passion. A few years ago we had moved to a new location and needed some extra bed frames. I advertised on our local Freecycle and someone came forward with a twin bed with drawers underneath, a nice enough bed. Sometime later (I forget how long it was), the child sleeping in that bed began complaining of itching. She began scratching her arms and legs and now has marks all over them as she is a light brown color and such as those show up too well. It confused me as to why she was itching, but as I knew that she had often itched in the past because of dry skin I didn’t know what to think. One evening she came and told me that she had seen a bug on her bed and had killed it, but assured me that there were more. I went to her room and saw the bug for myself, looked at it closely and then looked it up on the Internet. I’d never seen one of these bugs before and I sincerely hope I never see another. They are hardy little nuisances, not susceptible to bug sprays except at the moment they are sprayed. Residue does not harm them. They hide in any crease and even on zippers, so that they are very hard to see or find. I vacuumed and sprayed and still she had them. I finally tossed out the bed-frame and bought some protective covers for the mattresses hoping that this would work.
Traveling is not as safe as it may seem as hotel rooms are becoming more widely infested by these little critters. But there is a very good solution called BugZip which is a bed bug encasement. I have personally used these protectors and can testify that they are thick and durable indeed! This is a very good idea because there are bags for suitcases large and small, furniture drawers, and even garment bags. These are made of durable, thick vinyl with zippers that fit under and end piece to insure that they stay closed. If you use them at home in your drawers then these will last a very long time. Not only would these be good for bedbugs but for keeping any bugs out of your clothes. Watch this video to get a better idea of how the protectors work. These protectors are known as BugZip and these would also be great for avoiding taking other bugs home with you, such as roaches. These are very hard pests to get rid of! These protectors are inexpensive enough that you can leave them behind at the hotel when you leave. Once you get to your room, encase your suitcase or other clothing in these vinyl covers and rest assured that you’ll be safe from pests once you return home. I was requested to do a review on this product for a small fee. The product was mailed to me and I thoroughly examined it. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the only way to go when traveling away or home or just protecting clothes within the household.

This is what is called a farmhouse sink. These farmhouse sinks are made of granite and if you don’t care for the rough look you also can find these in a smoother look or in marble. These are at Wholesale Stone Sinks and I have to admit that I had never heard of them until today. I imagine these are extremely durable and heavy. They have for these a sealer, stain remover and revitalizer. These sinks are not inexpensive but they look sturdier than any I have ever seen.
